Davida Get Turnbull & Asser’s SS17 motor running

The racing-themed range revs up diamond patterns, sports materials and a exclusive motorbike collaboration with the only UK manufacturer of Motorcycle helmets, Davida UK Ltd.

Start your engines, gentlemen. Turnbull & Asser, famed shirtmakers of London, have waved the checkered flag on their spring/summer collection – garments inspired by the golden racing days of 1970s Monte Carlo, and the antics and heroism of the Grand Prix victors of the day.

Completing the collection, an exclusive collaboration with motorcycle helmet manufacturer Davida cements the overriding theme, with 70s-inspired custom crash helmets featuring unique decorative bubble visors – the perfect finish for a collection which arouses the essence of speed through print and pattern alike.

Named ‘Velocity’, the collection features traditional Turnbull & Asser ‘power stripes’ – but with a gentler finish than previous iterations thanks to their beach-like sandy backgrounds. Diamond standard-cloth, ideal for warmer climates, is presented in neat micro-grid checks – further perpetuating the motorsport theme whilst subtly blurred to evoke a sense of velocity and movement.

Classics, such as the Prince of Wales check, prevail – albeit reimagined in the Ronson shirt – whilst warm orange tones mix with washed-out shares of ochre, copper and pale pistachio to add something new.  Standard colour combinations, of lilac and sky blue, and soft grey and sand are brought to life through woven patterns in the brand’s signature shirting – which, as always, form the foundation of the range.

The classic white Oxford has been spun off into the ‘Informalist’, a play on traditional resort wear using irregular bold stripes – and beach shirts with a lazy pyjama style collar further add to the insouciance of this summer range.

The Garment 57 silhouette returns in printed paisley silks and abstract indigo cottons, which pair with coordinating swim shorts or drawstring ‘yacht’ trousers for the ultimate in elegant relaxation.

But it’s not all new. The discerning classicists amongst you will be glad to hear that the silk, linen and cotton that typifies the quality of Turnbull & Asser is as top drawer as ever, even when crafted into the unlined double-breasted four patch pocket jackets and statement horizontal stripe blazers – new additions for 2017.
