‘Natural Habitats’ is a photographic exhibition that reveals why there is a real buzz about the Custom Scene that is currently growing in Europe. Photographer, Sam Christmas has spent the past few years applying his great talent to the builders and their bikes to produce a collection of beautiful images taken in the garages and homes across the UK.
A passionate rider himself, Sam adorned the exhibition space with a few of the featured bikes by Custom Builders, Boneshakers and Baron Speed Shop . Running ’till 3rd Feb 2013, the exhibition is also a pop-up shop where you can buy a selected range of motorcycle stuff, including Davida Helmets. One of the original Mean Fuckers and long time Davida Ambassador, Thomas Triton arrived for the opening night last week wearing his bespoke Davida Classic. We still use some of the fantastic images we took of Thomas at the opening of the Ace Cafe in London 1994. We strongly recommend you get yourself down to 71A Leonard Street, EC2A 4AQ to see Sam’s work.
This is an image we took of Thomas in 1994 at the opening of the Ace Cafe in 1994. On the same day we also got a series of images of Dick Smith and his wife Marie. Dick now has Barons Speed Shop and as one of the exhibitions subjects also provided one of the custom bikes at Natural Habitats. Both these images are available as posters.
We first met Sam at the 2012 Wheels and Waves Event in Biarritz. Riding alongside a bunch of highly spirited guys on’ home-made’ customs, Sam was making a video and film record of their return trip to Biarritz. You can read the full report written by Jules Watts of the 2012 Wheels and Waves here. The exhibition of their journey will be shown at the Edwin Jeans Store in Shoreditch from 8th Feb 2013. Visit Sam’s website for more information.
Here is an image of Guy Martin Sam recently took in the IOM and some of the images he took at our recent photoshoot in London
