The Davida Classic Helmet As Worn By The Prince of Darkness
The list of famous names that have worn a Davida helmet include Princes and Kings of royal households from around the world, yet surely the most infamous must be the prince of darkness himself, as personified by José Manuel de Sousa in Dominik Scherrer’s anarchic 1998 motorbike-opera Hell For Leather.
At turns both provocative and hilarious, this visceral and Wagnerian re-imagining of Satan and his acolyte’s banishment to hell via a post-apocalyptic London is twisted and compelling for every minute of its modest 30 minute running time. Shot in beautiful monochrome 35mm and featuring an extraordinary looking cast of characters, it runs wild with all manner of genres from motorbike exploitation films to fetishism to, well, opera with adult content, not for the faint-hearted.
Davida have chosen to show Hell For Leather as their contribution to 2013 international ‘Art and Moto’ exhibition being held at the LxFactory in Lisbon, Portugal on April 27th-28th. Focusing on motorcycle themed artwork by artists from across Europe it will also showcase the launch of the new pop-art book ‘Motorcycle Graphics’ by Ian Castello-Cortes and co-ordinated by sideburns Gary Inman. Here is Art & Moto Facebook page or go to CafeRacer351
If you can’t make it to Lisbon you can catch a screening of the film in London at the end of May 2013. Dates will be announced on this website.
